Somehow in the last few years of my life, I've managed to bring my pipedream of travelling around the world (and learning a thing or two along the way) into reality. And somehow, in those same last few years, I've managed not to document much of that online. I've started the blogs before, I've opened all those blank journals that I've been given, and yet my stories and learnings still only reside in my head. The task that lays before me now is to finally bring all of those out into reality as well.
Since the start of 2001 -- 6 years now -- I've been on a grand voyage of our wonderful planet. What started out as "life research" has evolved into "life" for me. 35 countries travelled, 6 continents tread upon, thousands of unique individuals encountered, and a million stories heard and shared. My backpack has become my briefcase, my camera has become my third eye, and my feet a more trusted means of transportation than any manufactured vehicle.
I stopped travelling just to see the sights some time ago (although I do still enjoy that from time to time). Once you open your eyes and ears to the world, there is no way you can close them up again. My "learning experience" has now become my "teaching opportunity." I don't want to just share my anecdotes and mishaps -- even though I've got plenty -- I want to share the knowledge and experience I've gained. So from time to time I may have one of my sardonic accounts of my adventures and other times I may impart a reality dose or two. Feel free to add your thoughts or knock me down off the soapbox, if I'm climbing to high upon it.
And, if any of you happen to be looking for an aspiring (young) writer, consider this site my cyber hand waving in the air.
I am currently working in Rabinal, Guatemala and will return to Canada at the end of May 2007.
